Project Planning - Internet, Websites & Digital

Speedwell's Project Planning Services

A Project Plan is the blueprint for each Internet project. A well-documented plan typically accounts for 35-40% of the time and effort involved in creating a website or application.

Good project planning is an essential part of any development project, and will help you to increase:

  • the return on investment on each project
  • operational efficiency & effectiveness
  • cost savings
  • client satisfaction
  • market share growth.

Project Plan Components

The Project Plan has three main components.

Business Analysis

The business analysis describes the user requirements for the project web site and the functionality required of the application, website or intranet in order to satisfy the client's return on investment criteria. These include:

a) business objectives
b) target audience analysis
c) competitor site analysis
d) structural parameters
e) creative brief
f) technology & security requirements
g) maintenance considerations
h) online marketing requirements.

Specifications

The specifications describe in detail how the application, website or Intranet will work.

There are three types of specifications contained in a project plan:

a) functional specification
b) technical specification
c) information architecture schemas.

Development Plan

The development plan sets out information that is critical to running the project smoothly, including:

a) quality assurance and testing schedule
b) team responsibilities
c) reporting requirements
d) budget & production schedule.

How is a Project Quoted?

There are three ways to determine the cost of an eBusiness project. Speedwell will help you to decide which method suits you best.

Fixed Price

Speedwell can provide a fixed-price quote for the development of a project once it has been specified. For this reason, project planning is undertaken as a separate project prior to the site actually being constructed.

Time and Materials

An estimate is given up-front, and development costs are assessed based on time recorded against the project.

Not-to-Exceed

Often, a project must fit within a pre-specified budget. The project's scope is managed during the planning process to maximise functionality for the price specified.
